Five Study Habits That Carry Students Through WASSCE

Practical, low-cost study strategies for Ghanaian SHS students preparing for WASSCE — no expensive textbooks or private tuition required.

Every year, brilliant students underperform in WASSCE not for lack of ability but for lack of method. These five habits cost nothing and change everything.

1. Study the syllabus, not just the notes

The WAEC syllabus for every subject is public. Print it or copy it by hand, and tick topics off as you master them. You cannot revise what you have not mapped.

2. Past questions are the real textbook

Ten years of past questions, worked honestly — marked against the marking scheme, not your hopes — will teach you the examiner's mind. Do them under timed conditions, on paper, with no phone in the room.

3. Teach it to someone

Explain photosynthesis to your younger sibling. If you cannot explain it simply, you have memorised it, not learned it. Study groups work when every member takes a turn as the teacher.

4. Protect your mornings

The hour after waking is gold. Before the house fills with noise and errands, give your hardest subject sixty focused minutes. Six such mornings beat one all-night cramming session — and you will sleep better too.

5. Rest is part of the syllabus

A tired brain retains nothing. Sleep seven hours minimum in the month before the exam. Walk. Drink water. Your body sits that exam with you.

The students who excel are rarely the ones with the most resources — they are the ones with the most consistent routines.

The MOSAK Foundation cheers for every candidate. And if your results open a university door your family cannot fund, remember: the Ade-Ena Scholars Program exists for exactly you.
